The Truth About Vehicle History Reports
A vehicle's past determines its future reliability and value. Hidden damage, rolled-back odometers, and washed titles cost consumers and businesses billions of dollars every year. Our Vehicle History API aggregates data from over 50 independent sources to create a complete lifecycle record for every VIN.
We don't just rely on one source. We cross-reference data to uncover the truth that sellers might try to hide.
Our Car History Data Sources
To ensure 100% coverage, we pull data from:
- NMVTIS (National Motor Vehicle Title Information System): The federal database that tracks title brands (Salvage, Flood, Junk) across state lines to prevent title washing.
- Insurance Carriers: Direct feeds of total loss declarations and theft claims.
- Salvage Auctions: Records from major auction houses (Copart, IAA) to identify vehicles sold as "scrap" or "parts only".
- Service Centers: Maintenance records that verify mileage and prove the vehicle was cared for.
Detecting Odometer Fraud
Odometer rollbacks are more common than ever with digital dashboards. Our system analyzes the chronological history of mileage readings from registration events, emissions tests, and service visits. If the mileage drops or stays flat over a long period, we flag it as a potential odometer rollback.
